Military Unit Types

From Guide

There are many types of units in Battledawn but there are 27 different units altogether. All of the units are formed by choosing from the three different chassis, weapon and upgrade types.

Chassis

The chassis sets the base HP, damage, build cost and maintenance of the unit. Each chassis also gets a damage bonus with one weapon type.

Infantry

Cheap and easy to build, are very easily killed but can be effective in large numbers. Soldiers deal 25% bonus damage to vehicles with all weapons and do regular damage to other infantry & tanks.

Mobility is a soldiers only advantage on the modern battlefield and recruits are intensively trained to exploit that to the fullest.

The many ruined and abandoned cities are perfect for guerilla-styled attacks with hand held explosive weapons, while their ability to take cover often allows soldiers to avoid direct hits from rockets and shells. Modern beam weapons have proven completely ineffective on flesh-and-bone targets.

Vehicles

A balanced choice between price and damage, vehicles are the best value for money as far as production costs. They deal 25% bonus damage to tanks with all weapons and deals regular damage to infantry and other vehicles.

The vehicle type covers a broad range of land based military craft. From modified pickup trucks to buggys and armored monsters that could almost be called tanks.

Generally however Vehicles are fast and nimble, able to cover ground quickly and strike at the enemy where it hurts the most. This prevents them from carrying the heavier beam weapons with their bulky power units and limits the ammunition that can be carried for missile systems.

On the other hand concussion or ballistic weapons have been refined over the decades to pack a considerable amount of damage into a relatively lightweight package.

A vehicle's light armor provides adequate protection from small arms fire while their high speed makes them extremely difficult targets for rocket systems.

Armored Vehicles

Very expensive to build, tanks have the best armor and firepower. They deal normal damage with all weapons to all Unit types.

Armored vehicles trade high speed for protection and raw firepower. They carry the heaviest available mobile weapons systems into battle, including the highly destructive beam cannons which are still a relatively new technology and tend to be large and cumbersome.

Heavy electronic shielding helps to reduce damage from beam weapons while thick armor makes them immune to most concussive armaments.

Weapons

The weapon type determines which enemies a unit will attack first and how effectively it will deal damage to the different chassis.

Concussive Damage

Traditional ballistic weapons that use a variety of methods to propel a solid bullet at high speeds.

Most effective against Soldiers. Deals 100% damage to infantry, 50% damage to Vehicles and 25% damage to Armor(Tanks).

Beam Damage

Relatively new technology developed during the last world war that ended in a nuclear holocaust. Covers a broad range of directed energy weapons that typically induce extremes of heat that can slag armor and machinery, and/or massive electric charges and EM fields which play havoc with even heavily shielded electronics.

Very effective against Vehicles. Deals 100% damage to Vehicles, 50% to Armor(Tanks) and only 25% to Infantry.

Explosive Damage

Includes all types of missile systems and high explosive cannon shells.

Effective against heavily Armored units. Deals 100% damage to Armor(Tanks), 50% to Infantry and 25% to Vehicles.

Unit Upgrade

Every unit will specialize in one area which can ultimately make the difference in your tactics and battles. It also effects the units cost - damage specced units cost a little extra oil then armored, while ranged cost nearly twice as much to build as damage units.

Armour

Units carry extra armor giving it 33% more health points then others. This means they can take more damage and survive longer. (+1 HP for soldiers, +2 HP for vehicles, +3 HP for tanks)

E1,E6 and M3: These units have more armor than any other sort of upgrade: 8 for infantry, 16 for vehicles and 24 for tanks/mechs.

Damage

These sort of unit has more powerful weapons, and as a consequence deals 50% more damage.

In E1, E6 and M3: The damage is triplicated, they strike before, but they have 25% less hit points than their armor-upgraded equivalent.

Image:Range symbol.jpg

Range

These units have developed weapons to strike from farther: they fire one round before armor-upgraded and damage-upgraded units.

E1, E6 and M3:

Range-upgraded units strike before the battle starts, they deal double damage but they have only half the armor than their armor-upgraded equivalent.
